Breaking the spell: Responding to witchcraft accusations against children

This research conducted for UNHCR focuses on the increasing international concern regarding witchcraft accusations against children, particularly in African countries. These accusations often lead to severe violations of children's rights, including abuse, isolation, trafficking, and mental and physical harm. Witchcraft allegations are deeply rooted in certain cultures and have been documented globally, though most cases involve African countries. UNHCR is particularly concerned about children in refugee and IDP communities accused of witchcraft. The report analyzes these accusations within the framework of international human rights, refugee law, and child protection, and suggests policy recommendations for UNHCR and civil society to better address these issues.
