Access to justice for children in armed conflicts - Past and Present

Despite advancements since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1989 and its Optional Protocol on children in armed conflict, the protection of children affected by war remains a critical challenge. Tens of thousands of children continue to experience grave violations, including recruitment and use in armed conflict, forced displacement and sexual violence. While international mechanisms, such as the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism and judicial bodies, provide avenues for redress, children continue to face significant barriers to accessing justice.
This research examines how access to justice can be strengthened for children affected by armed conflict, with a particular focus on their right to an effective remedy and their meaningful ability to seek justice before national and international mechanisms. It also highlights the critical role of NGOs, lawyers and other legal representatives in documenting violations, supporting children and advocating for their rights.
I contributed to several editions of this international research and advocacy initiative, with my articles published in two editions.
